"Start with Why" -- Simon Sinek

Pathways was introduced to cope with:

  1. Globalization
  2. Advancing Technologies
  3. Change in the way we learn

Toastmasters adopted Pathways to revitalize the education program instead of revising the communication and leadership program that has been around since the 1970's. We have been in an era of laptops, tablets, smartphones, social media, MOOCs and other forms of online education, and cloud computing for years now and was about time for Toastmasters to come up with an education program relevant to the 21st century. Prior to launching of Pathways in 2017, The Toastmasters board in 2015 had legalized  online attendance to what was previously limited to physically in-person clubs. TI also opened the gates to 100% online clubs in 2016. This has made it possible to have club members from several countries. Businesses that have offices and customers that span the globe and personnel-that-travel should benefit from this.

This club currently has members from Australia, England, Finland, Germany, HongKong, New Zealand, Scotland, and the United Arab Emirates or UAE so having members from several nations is not limited to global corporations. The advances particularly in digital communications technology and user experience design has made the online experience almost as good or as good, if not better, than physically in-person clubs. Technical support to Pathways users is done almost 100% online with the same app for online meetings. Pathways has also introduced digital platforms that are in use to communicate with an audience--blogging, podcasting, social media and webinars. We now have access to a global audience as we are no longer limited to the physical stage.

Just like the Internet has changed some of the ways we shop, online education has changed the face of education. It may be the greatest revolution of today. You can learn whatever you want. Thousands of courses are offered online. Go to Coursera, Lynda, or Udemy to see what's out there. Toastmasters had to keep up. The difference is that Toastmasters offers a blended learning environment. Take classes or elearning modules online, work your projects and deliver presentations onsite or online LIVE! The high-touch of having classmates as your live audience is very much present.
